
On Easter Saturday, 19 April, the following libraries are open: Itäkeskus, Kallio, Pasila, Rikhardinkatu, Töölö, Vuosaari and Central Library Oodi. You can find the opening hours at helmet.fi. Libraries will be closed on Friday, 18 April, Sunday, 20 April and Monday, 21 April, but self-service libraries, i.e. the Herttoniemi, Jakomäki, Laajasalo, Lauttasaari, Myllypuro, Paloheinä, Suomenlinna and Viikki libraries, will be open on the aforementioned days. Registered users can access the self-service libraries by using their library card and PIN number.
Bountiful books, multiple magazines and fascinating films always available in E-library
You can enjoy E-library magazines, books, films and music on Easter holidays, as well. You can use your Helmet library card to access the Medici.tv video service, which includes 1,500 classical concert recordings, 500 jazz concerts and hundreds of operas and ballets. For Easter time, we recommend Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion or Händel’s Messiah oratorio, for example. Cultural centres offer Palm Sunday traditions, theatre and Easter crafts
Cultural centres will be hosting Easter-themed events and workshops. In the art workshop open to all at Stoa, participants can felt fluffy Easter eggs on Wednesday, 9 April, at 17.00–19.00.
A free-of-charge Easter event for the entire family, ‘Virvon varvon vipinät’, will be held at Maunula House on Saturday 12 April at 10.00–14.00 in cooperation with Lions Club Keskuspuisto. The programme includes decorating your own pussy willow branches, making Easter cards, a stuffed animal course and story time in the library.
Vuotalo House hosts a phenomenal theatre-themed Easter event on Saturday, 12 April, at 12.00–14.00 with theatre and theatre play. Visitors can watch and listen to performances, craft Easter eggs and participate in writing a joint Easter poem. There will also be a make-up and costume station as well as a photo wall, where you can take pictures that are perfect for spring. Entry to the event is free of charge.
Museum to showcase Helsinki’s past
The City Museum at the corner of Aleksanterinkatu is open on Maundy Thursday, 17 April, at 11.00–17.00. The museum will be closed for Easter on 18–20 April. The museum will be open from 11.00 to 17.00 on Easter Monday, 21 April. At the museum’s Children's Town, preschool-age children and their parents have the chance to learn more about the history of Helsinki through experimentation and activities. Live role playing evening at Tiivistämö on Good Friday
‘What about Dragons’ brings live role playing to the stage in Finland in a never-before-seen way at Tiivistämö on Good Friday, 18 April. The programme includes adventure with a side of improvised situational comedy! The doors will open at 18.30 and the show will start at 19.00 (duration approx. 2.5 hours, intermission). Tickets at door €5 (payment method cash or Mobile Pay). Recommended age 13 and up.
