The design of the Heart of Malminkartano campus is progressing. The Malminkartano primary school building, which currently flanks Puustellinaukio, will be renovated and extended so that, in addition to Malminkartano Primary School, the building will have facilities for Apollo School’s upper secondary school and secondary school as well as preschool.
Malminkartano Library will have its own, much-needed new building in the campus area. The library’s current facilities do not serve changing needs and the growing and diversifying user base of the new campus. The renewed library will reach the residents and operators of Malminkartano and the nearby areas more extensively and diversely than at present.
The services and facilities for children, families and young people will play a central role in Malminkartano’s new library. The goal is for the new library to reach out to and welcome the region’s senior population even better. The library serves residents multilingually.
Public space available to residents and communities is currently scarce in Malminkartano. In the planning of the new library, we want to invest in enabling and supporting communality and voluntary activities in the area. The Cultural and Youth Services of the area are also involved in the planning of the library.
As a whole, the Heart of Malminkartano campus project also aims to increase mobility and recreational opportunities in the area. The library also strives to meet this goal with its facilities and services.
The residents, communities and partners of Malminkartano will have the opportunity to participate in the planning of the library’s future services and facilities in summer 2024. Views are also needed from potential library customers - those who have not been active visitors to the library so far. What would make you come to the library?
You can share your views and wishes on library design. During the summer, residents and partners will also be involved in the planning of the library through interviews, for example. The library’s key current and potential visitor and stakeholder groups, such as children and young people, can also present their ideas about spaces and services in separately organised workshops.
