A delegation of about 60 people from Amsterdam is visiting Helsinki from 10 to 12 April. The group consists of some of the management and officials of the City of Amsterdam, people of the city marketing organisation Amsterdam&Partners, business representatives and the mayors of Amsterdam’s neighbouring municipalities. Since the Mayor of Amsterdam was unable to join the group, it is led by Deputy Mayor Egbert
de Vries.

At an event held at the City Hall today, the speakers were Juhana Vartiainen, Mayor of Helsinki, Marja-Leena Rinkineva, Director of Economic Development, and Kaisa-Reeta Koskinen, Head of Climate Unit. They spoke about, among other things, Helsinki’s urban development, industrial policy priorities, cooperation with domestic and foreign companies and climate work.

“Cooperation with other pioneering cities is increasingly important during the post-pandemic recovery and reconstruction phase. The goal is to enable our city to grow in an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable manner. Helsinki wants to act as a pioneer in urban development but, on the other hand, also wants to learn from others. It is great that an innovative city like Amsterdam has chosen to visit Helsinki for this purpose,” Mayor Vartiainen says.

During the three-day visit, the group will learn more about, for example, the Maria 01 startup hub, game companies like Supercell, Neogames and Aalto Gamers, the startup event Slush, the information and cyber security company WithSecure and the traditional Finnish Fiskars brand. In addition, the group will explore Helsinki’s resident co-creation in Central Library Oodi, the history of the construction of the Helsinki Metro and the newly opened Subterranean exhibition at the Amos Rex Art Museum.

The
programme for the visit was planned by the Helsinki City Executive Office and
Helsinki Partners, a city-owned urban marketing and invest-in company.
