The City of Helsinki is carrying out pre-construction work in Ala-Malmi in preparation for the construction of a new street and residential block. A new street named Katontekijänkatu will be built between Pikitehtaankatu and Teerisuontie. New apartments will be built in the corner of Teerisuontie and Teerisuonkuja.

The necessary tree felling work will be carried out in late March. The aim is to start excavation work and other pre-construction work later this year. An exact schedule for the street and housing construction work is yet to be established.

In the future, other new residential buildings will also be built in the surroundings of the current small industry buildings. A square named Vanhanradanaukio will also be built on the northern side of Teerisuontie. Services and public transport stops will be placed around the square.

The construction is based on the detailed plan for the Pikitehtaankorttelit block area, which entered into force in 2023.
