The aim of the new Act is to promote the equality, inclusion, and independent living of persons with disabilities while removing obstacles to participation. The law also guarantees sufficient and high-quality services that meet individual needs.

Decisions made before 1 January 2025 will remain in force until they are reviewed

We will process applications received from the beginning of 2025 in accordance with the new Act. Decisions made before 1 January 2025 will remain valid until they are reviewed.

Reviews can take place:

  • At the client’s request (starting from 1 January 2025).
  • If the client’s service needs change.
  • During the transition period (until 31 December 2027).
  • When the decision expires.

Who can apply for disability services?

In the new Act, the definition of a severely disabled person will be removed. Going forward, the Disability Services Act will apply to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Their disability, caused by an injury or illness, is long-term or permanent.
  • Their disability or illness prevents them from participating in society on an equal basis with others.
  • They require services under the Act to realise independent living, inclusion, or equality.

Additionally, the right to services under the Disability Services Act requires that the individual does not already receive the necessary services under another Act.
