The new Children's House for Disability Services will begin operations on 14 April 2025. In the future, all short-term care services for children with disabilities will be provided at the Children’s House for Disability Services in Töölö.
Short-term care services currently offered at Harbo and Visiitti will be transferred to the new unit. Clients using these services have been personally informed of the change.
Supporting children, young people, and their families
The Children’s House for Disability Services provides support for children and young people under the age of 18. Short-term care is designed to help families cope with daily life while also giving young people the opportunity to practice independent living outside the home.
Short-term care can also be arranged during the days off of a minor’s informal carer or in urgent situations requiring temporary care. This service is generally subject to a fee and is applied for through a disability services social worker in the client’s area of residence.
Versatile and accessible facilities designed for children
The first floor of the building houses the early childhood education daycare centre Ratikka, while the upper floors are dedicated to the Children’s House for Disability Services.
The unit features group home facilities, communal spaces, hobby and sensory rooms, and staff areas. The spaces have been designed with accessibility in mind and can be adapted to different care needs and client situations.
The yard has also been renovated for the shared use of both the daycare centre and the Children’s House for Disability Services.
This development has been carried out as part of the Sustainable Growth Project, which aims to strengthen well-being and prevent problems. The project is part of the Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland, funded by the European Union Recovery Instrument (Next Generation EU). The programme is coordinated by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and implemented across all wellbeing services counties and in Helsinki.
