Accessibility information of the City of Helsinki’s services on the Service Map

The service map is a map service for public services. It is a service where citizens can find up-to-date information on all services of the City of Helsinki in one place.

The map also includes the services of the rest of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county and the City of Kerava. On the map, they can search for schools, daycare centres, playgrounds, health stations, car parks, recycling points, restaurants or flea markets, for example.

In addition, the details of many private service providers, such as cafés and restaurants, can be found on the map.

Accessibility information for services in one place

The special feature of the service map is the accessibility information of the various service points, which indicates whether the service can be accessed with a wheelchair or a pram or whether an escort is needed.

“The aim of the service map is to be – nothing more or less – than the most accessible service map in the world.  The City of Helsinki’s services can already be found comprehensively on the map, but I hope that companies could make more use of the visibility provided by the service map to update their own information, says Pekka Pirkkala, chairman of the digitalisation committee of the City of Helsinki.

“Companies receive visibility through the Service Map, while city residents can view the opening hours and accessibility information of lunch cafés, recycling points and health stations, for example, at one glance,” Pirkkala says.

More than 300,000 searches are made on the service map annually. It is mostly used to find civil defence shelters, daycare centres, after-school activities, car parks and ticket machines as well as outdoor exercise areas.
