The time has come to apply for schoolchildren’s after-school activities. The after-school activities are available for pupils in the 1st and 2nd grades and pupils with special needs in higher grades. The City implements the activities together with organisations and private service providers. The application period for after-school activities in the school year 2022–2023 is from 21 March to 22 April 2022.
The activities are provided in close cooperation between the school and guardians. This helps with forming after-school activity groups and placing children in the groups. We pay special attention to promoting the participation of children with special support needs and children with different cultural backgrounds. The goal is to make every child’s daily programme consistent and uninterrupted. The activities are provided at schools and other facilities that are suitable for this purpose and located near the schools, such as playgrounds.
The client fees for the school year 2022–2023 are: €100 per month (activities ending at 16.00) and €120 per month (activities ending at 17.00). Guardians can apply for a fee reduction. Depending on the guardians’ income, the fee can be cut by 50% or left uncharged. You can apply for the fee reduction when the activities begin in August.
The activities will begin on the first school day in the autumn semester in August, and they will be organised in accordance with the schools’ work and holiday times.

The after-school activities comply with the Basic Education Act. They are based on the National Core Curriculum for Morning and Afternoon Activities in Basic Education of the Finnish National Agency for Education and the City of Helsinki’s Action Plan for After-school Activities.
Playground activities for schoolchildren
For the school year 2022–2023, some playgrounds’ activities will continue as schoolchildren’s activities based on the Act on Early Childhood Education. For autumn 2022, you can register for the playground activities for school-age children by submitting a paper form directly to the playground that organises the activities.
