Tree felling is carried out along outdoor trails and on the edges of plots, where hazardous or unexpectedly falling trees could cause harm to residents and passers-by. For safety reasons, small trees will also be thinned out, especially at the intersections of routes and roads, where overgrown vegetation may obstruct visibility and create hazardous situations.

Where necessary, small trees will also be thinned out on the edges of  plots. At the request of housing companies and landowners, trees that have grown from the city’s street or park areas and are encroaching onto private plots may also be cut down.

Most of the felled trunks will be left to decay naturally as deadwood, which contributes to urban biodiversity.

The city will be felling trees in Herttoniemenranta, the Herttoniemi business area and Roihuvuori. The work is not based on a nature management plan but aims to ensure the safety of plots and outdoor trails.

The work will begin at the turn of January and February

The city will begin work at the turn of January and February.

The client of the work is the City of Helsinki Urban Environment Division. The Helsinki City Construction Services (Stara) is responsible for the implementation.
