Culture and leisure services during the holiday season

Culture and leisure services will have exceptional opening hours during the 2022–2023 holiday season. For example, three libraries will remain open on Christmas Eve with shortened opening hours.

Visit the library on Christmas Eve for some peace of mind and glögg!

Itäkeskus, Kallio and Rikhardinkatu libraries will be open on Christmas Eve at 10:00–16:00.

Artificial ice rinks and sports facilities available with exceptional opening hours

Artificial ice rinks maintained by the City of Helsinki will be available to city residents during the holiday season with exceptional opening hours; they will only be closed on Christmas Eve, 24 December. Weather conditions affect the maintenance of artificial ice rinks and may cause further exceptions to opening hours.

Skiing season continues if the weather permits

The tracks are being maintained, for example, in Paloheinä using an artificial snow system. The track situation in Helsinki and the rest of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area can be viewed in the ulkoliikunta.fi(Link leads to external service) service. It contains up-to-date information on the condition, maintenance and length of the tracks.

Exceptional opening hours for indoor sports facilities

For example, both Kisahalli and Itäkeskus swimming hall will be closed on 24–26 December as well as on New Year’s Day, 1 January 2023. The opening hours of all swimming halls, gyms and weightlifting rooms, sports halls and indoor skating rinks are available here.
