Helsinki to update beach signage – share your opinion on designs

The City of Helsinki has 12 supervised and 12 unsupervised beaches. To help the beaches serve the citizens even better in the future, the city is updating the beach signage to make it more visitor-friendly and better suited to the needs of today. City residents now have the opportunity to comment on the signage designs in a survey in the kerrokantasi.hel.fi service. Two respondents will win a set of 10 serial tickets to Helsinki’s swimming and sports halls and outdoor swimming pools.

Helsinki’s beaches are unique leisure destinations used all year round located on the shore of the delicate Baltic Sea and the banks of the Vantaa River.  The beaches have signs and information boards to inform visitors of the features of the beach area, the general rules and guidelines, and what to do in case of an emergency. The purpose of the signage update is to ensure clarity and safety, as well as an enjoyable and sustainable visitor experience.

Respond to the survey by 10 March

The visitors of the beaches is a diverse group of people with different needs, so we want to consult residents of the city at different stages of the signage design process. City residents can now view and comment on the signage set at kerrokantasi.hel.fi. Feedback from families with children, young people and senior citizens is particularly welcome.

The survey will be open until 10 March. Respondents can also take part in the draw for two sets of 10 serial tickets, which give access to the city’s swimming and sports halls and outdoor swimming pools.

Together with city residents

The signage set is being designed by the Kuudes design company. The signage design began with a survey, where residents had the opportunity to give feedback and development suggestions on the current signs. A new signage set designed based on the feedback is now available for viewing and comments before the final version is made. All city residents can give feedback on the signage set at kerrokantasi.hel.fi. In addition to the survey, the city’s own and external experts will evaluate the accessibility of the signage.
