Strikes may affect the operations of Helsinki Työväenopisto and the Arbis

This week, strikes and industrial actions have been announced across Finland. This may also affect the operations of Helsinki Finnish Adult Education Centre Työväenopisto and Arbis, the Swedish Adult Education Centre in Helsinki. In principle, the teachers of the centres are not on strike and classes will be held.

On Thursday, 1 February, members of the JHL trade union will participate in a demonstration and leave their workplaces from 11.00 to 15.00. This may affect the opening hours of some Työväenopisto’s locations. The following Työväenopisto locations will remain open with supervisor staffing: Opistotalo, Silkkikutomo, Malmitalo, Stoa, and Kanneltalo. Other locations of the centre may need to be closed between 11.00 and 15.00. Arbis will be open as usual.

The strike will halt rail traffic and a significant portion of bus services on Friday, 2 February. Teaching will be provided despite the strike, but some courses may be held online. Any potential changes will be communicated to participants via email or text message. As teaching will be provided, the centres will not refund course fees.
