The City of Helsinki’s Education Division will organise the Helsinki Education Capital event on 12–14 November 2024. Approximately 60 education experts from around the world are expected to attend the invited guest event, which is intended for Finnish and foreign education providers.
The speeches and discussions of the three-day event will focus on the opportunities of future education: how we can jointly strengthen cities' foresight capabilities and know-how to build a sustainable and fair future.
“It is important that we learn and interact with other global metropolises that have phenomena similar to those we have in Helsinki. Succeeding in global competition requires us to have diverse and changing capabilities that we want to develop in cooperation with other cities,” says Johanna Laisaari, Deputy mayor of the Education Division.
The aim of the Helsinki Education Capital event is to highlight Helsinki’s pioneering position in the field of education and training and to develop the city’s expertise in international networks. The participants will also be able to visit daycare centres, playgrounds, schools and educational institutions in Helsinki.
“The event provides an opportunity for the education division personnel to enable the creation of new types of networks. For students of our schools and educational institutions, the event provides an arena for discussions about the future with representatives from other cultures, for example, and we have invited representatives of student bodies to the event, among others,” says Satu Järvenkallas, Head of Division.
The Helsinki Education Capital event will be opened by Mayor Juhana Vartiainen. The keynote address of the event will be given by Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz on the topic “How Finland is recreating their education systems for the future”. Some of the discussions at the event can be followed via Helsinki Channel broadcasts.
