Koulupuistikko square in Kaartinkaupunki has been used as a summer street in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The temporary summer street area has received good feedback from the city residents on its pleasantness, lushness and the square’s event stage.
With the work that is now starting, Koulupuistikko square will be permanently renovated. The aim is to make the square a pleasant area for pedestrians all year round. With the renovation, the square will receive more benches and seating, new vegetation and better lighting.
The renovation of Koulupuistikko square is planned with pedestrians in mind. Vehicle traffic and parking will no longer be allowed in front of the Design Museum at Korkeavuorenkatu and Merimiehenkatu.
The draft street plan for the square will be completed in early 2025, at which point it can be viewed and commented on the city’s website. The aim is to start construction work on the square and its adjacent streets in 2026.
