The City of Helsinki is aiming to promote cooperation and business opportunities in the United States for companies and research, development and innovation operators based in Helsinki and the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The joint project is also aiming to strengthen the interest of US companies and other operators in Helsinki as an investment and location destination. Helsinki particularly wants cooperation with civil industry, from critical technologies to smart infrastructure and digitalisation, and from cybersecurity to energy efficiency.
The Gateway to US Industrial Platforms (GIPP2) partnership project, led by the Confederation of Finnish Industries, involves Finland's six largest cities, Business Finland and the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The project is being led by Martti Wallin who started in Washington in March with strong international business experience.
“Long-term, single-minded work and effective networks will help you succeed in the US market. It's important to know the right people and choose the right way to market Finnish expertise,” says Wallin.
City wanting to promote business opportunities for Helsinki's RDI operators
The partnership project supports the City of Helsinki's strategy to be an attractive city for international companies and talents and to use international cooperation in the development of the city. The GIPP2 partnership aims to develop and deepen Finland's industrial, technological, economic, investment and innovation cooperation with the US administration and US companies. At the same time, Helsinki wants to support the growth of Helsinki-based growth companies. The GIPP2 project also enables Finnish cities to develop partnerships with each other in international activities.
“Helsinki aims to promote opportunities for our companies to collaborate across a broad range of technology, industry and RDI activities in the United States. I encourage all companies in Helsinki that are looking for a route into the US market for their top-class products to contact Business Helsinki's experts,” says Marja-Leena Rinkineva, the City of Helsinki's Director of Economic Development.
The City of Helsinki's Business Helsinki department is coordinating cooperation between Helsinki-based technology companies and the GIPP2 project, which will run from 2023 to 2024.
