Concert arrangements will close streets around the Senate Square 7–10 November – exceptions in tram traffic

Exceptional arrangements are related to the Greyest Day of the Year concert, which will be held at the Senate Square in Helsinki on Saturday 9 November from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Traffic will be affected most on the concert day, Saturday 9 November. Aleksanterinkatu in front of the Senate Square (between Unioninkatu and Snellmaninkatu) will be closed to vehicle and tram traffic from 9 am to 10 pm. Trams will run on diversion routes during that time. Diversion routes can be checked in the Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) route guide.

Movement at and around Senate Square will be restricted as follows, with the exception of service traffic and rescue vehicles:

  • Walking in the area is allowed on the edge facing the main building of the University of Helsinki.
  • Hallituskatu between Unioninkatu and Snellmaninkatu and Unioninkatu between Yliopistonkatu and Aleksanterinkatu will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 November at 3 pm to 10 November at 10 pm.
  • Unioninkatu between Kirkkokatu and Yliopistonkatu will be closed to  vehicle traffic on 9 November from 2 pm to 10 pm.
  • Aleksanterinkatu between Unioninkatu and Snellmaninkatu will be closed to vehicle traffic and tram traffic on 9 November from 2 pm to 10 pm. Trams will run on diversion routes.
  • Snellmaninkatu between Hallituskatu and Aleksanterinkatu will be closed to other than tram traffic on 9 November from 2 pm to 10 pm.
  • Senate Square will be closed to passage from 7 November at 5 pm to 10 November at 10 pm. The area will be surrounded by a high fence and guarded.

Approximately 8,000 visitors are expected to attend the concert. The concert is free of charge, but requires pre-registration.
