This spring, Helen will be carrying out district heating work on Kluuvikatu, in the section between Aleksanterinkatu and Pohjoisesplanadi. The worksite will be close to the sculpture, which will be removed for conservation. HAM Helsinki Art Museum is responsible for the conservation of the work. A new base will be built for it, designed together by HAM and the artist who designed the sculpture. The alteration will reduce the risk of damage to the work of art.
The sculpture will be returned to its place in front of the Fazer Café once the work on Kluuvikatu is over and the conservation of the sculpture has been completed, later this autumn.
Created by artist Björn Weckström, the sculpture has been standing on Kluuvikatu since 1991. The Fazer Group donated the sculpture to the City of Helsinki to celebrate the 100-year history of Karl Fazer’s confectionery. Opened by Fazer in 1891, the confectionery was originally located in a wooden house on Kluuvikatu.
The work is part of the collections of HAM Helsinki Art Museum. Reaching a height of more than four metres and inspired by a popular Fazer confectionery product, the bronze figure has a black granite base. Other stylised shapes can also be seen in the work, such as a spinal vertebra.
