In the future, the Helsinki Diabetes Centre will manage the care and monitoring of type 1 diabetes patients. It will also provide specialised medical care for type 2 diabetes patients requiring advanced treatment. Care for patients currently monitored by HUS will continue under HUS.
– Our goal is to ensure that our clients with diabetes receive care that is of higher quality and more consistent. We aim to support the well-being, functional capacity, and commitment to self-care of individuals with diabetes, as well as to prevent diabetes-related complications, says Timo Lukkarinen, Medical Director of Health Stations.
Instructions for clients
If you are a type 1 diabetes patient currently being monitored at a health station, follow your existing treatment plan. When your next follow-up visit is due, contact your health station. Your doctor or nurse will refer you to the Diabetes Centre.
If you are a client of the diabetes unit at the Laakso or Malmi Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic, or the diabetes centres in Kalasatama or Vuosaari, you do not need to take any action at this stage. You will receive an invitation to an appointment at the Helsinki Diabetes Centre in accordance with your treatment plan. A separate referral is not required.
