Helsinki Education Hub, a dynamic centre of innovation and excellence that operates at the University of Helsinki, brings together businesses, schools, university researchers and students with the aim of developing new learning technologies. It is important to integrate educational research with practical development and to ensure that the latest academic research benefits the use of new technology in education.
“Helsinki Education Hub creates new kind of partnerships and exchanges of information between the school world, researchers and early-stage growth companies to develop innovations in learning technology,” says Niko Lindholm, Senior Business Advisor at Business Helsinki.
“Working with the City of Helsinki is an opportunity to test these innovations in genuine learning environments,” adds Lindholm.
New EdTech ideas are now being accepted
The application period for Helsinki Education Hub's EdTech incubator programme is now open. The programme seeks innovative early-stage startups and university teams to brainstorm ways for technology to improve learning.
Participation in the programme is an excellent opportunity to forge new expert contacts with teachers, researchers, and business experts. Whether your new idea is still in its early stages or almost ready to launch, the programme includes tailored services and help for new entrepreneurs and student teams.
The application period, which started in early December, ends on 15 January and the programme itself launches in February.
Collaboration fosters innovation and new business
The first Helsinki Education Hub was operated by the City of Helsinki in 2021–2023. According to the impact report of that project, both businesses and stakeholders considered its services and network to be important. The project contributed to the establishment of 15 new businesses in Helsinki through its incubator programme.
The new Helsinki Education Hub is based on a new University of Helsinki project, which includes the City of Helsinki. The project is co-financed by the City Innovation Fund. The project reinforces the roles of the University and City of Helsinki as thought leaders, innovators and developers of innovative solutions in education.
The project will further promote the use of research data related to learning and learning technology in the creation, development and validation of new solutions that support learning. Cooperation with the University of Helsinki helps to strengthen the capacity for innovative business among students studying to become teachers and researchers, as well as the innovation competence of teachers.
