Helsinki payroll situation management proceeds as planned

The level of new payroll errors in relation to all payslips of the City of Helsinki has remained at the target level, that is less than 5%. Talpa, the body responsible for salary payments, is also able to correct more errors than are being made.

Helsinki strives to overcome the crisis in the payroll situation during the spring. This means that new pay errors will remain at a manageable level and the backlog of payroll errors accumulated in 2022 will have been eliminated by the end of March. However, the measures taken to stabilise the payroll situation will continue after this point.

According to the latest payroll situation report, most errors concern underpaid wages, such as bonuses. The second most common errors are other errors (e.g. errors related to holidays and absences) and the third most common are overpaid wages. Any errors concerning holidays will be corrected by the end of March.

Incomes Register corrections regarding last year are progressing

The payroll situation of the City of Helsinki can affect the information on the pre-completed tax return of some employees. Helsinki will make corrections to the Incomes Register even after the Tax Administration has sent the pre-completed tax returns.

Staff will be added to Talpa’s customer service to advise people on how to check the salary and wages paid by the City of Helsinki and the amount of tax withheld from it. The Tax Administration’s customer service assists the city’s employees in tax matters.

The return date for the pre-completed tax return is in May for most people. Entrepreneurs and farmers with their spouses have their return date in April.
