A five-storey extension for the health and well-being centre and a new metro ticket hall are planned on the site of the existing ticket hall. The centre is located at Jauhokuja 4.
Its facilities are designed to be multi-purpose and adaptable. If necessary, separate rooms and entrances can be provided for the infectious diseases reception.
The current estimate is that construction of the extension will start at the end of 2024. This requires that the pending change to the local detailed plan of the building site be legally binding. Construction will take approximately two years. The extension will then be fully equipped for use. The expanded health and wellbeing centre is expected to be operational by 2028, but the timetable will be refined as planning progresses.
The construction of the extension and the necessary modifications to the old premises will be phased so that the services at Myllypuro Health Centre will operate as smoothly as possible throughout the construction.
Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. There will be 24 new parking spaces in the indoor car park.
The maximum price of the construction, updated on 18 January 2023 to the December 2022 cost level (RPI 120.5; CPI 205.6), is €69,478,000 (excl. VAT).
The Buildings and Public Areas Sub-committee of the City of Helsinki Urban Environment Committee processed the project plan for the extension on 9 February. The adoption of the project plan will be decided upon by the City Council.
An expanding range of services
According to current plans, the Myllypuro centre will provide the following services by 2028:
- Health centre services
- Dental services
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy
- Nutritional therapy and podiatry
- Social services for young people and adults
- Basic mental health and substance abuse services
- Outpatient services in specialised care (e.g. a diabetes centre)
- Service guidance for the elderly
- Laboratory and X-ray
- A cafeteria and restaurant.
The services of the Kontula and Kivikko health centres will move to the renovated Myllypuro building in 2028. A small convenience store will remain in Kontula.
Staff, customers and local residents are actively involved in the development of the centre. The participatory work has been systematic and has been going on for several years.
