Autumn will once again bring along thousands of options for hobbies and learning new skills. Registration for the Adult Education Centre courses will start on 8–10 August.
The Helsinki Finnish Adult Education Centre will introduce new languages, as beginner courses of Sami, Vietnamese and Ukrainian will be organised. Ukrainian beginner courses will start both as contact teaching in a classroom and online teaching.
Finnish as a second language courses (S2 for short) for people with immigrant backgrounds will be organised at all levels, from the beginner level to proficient level. However, we encourage our Finnish as a second language students to also register for courses other than language courses – the best way to learn a language is through immersion.
A great way to learn language and culture is in our home economics and cooking courses. The Meze course in English will focus on preparing the small starters originating from Turkey and Greece. The dinner cooking course in French will teach you how to prepare meals from bouillabaisse to tarte Tatin. In the temple food course of the Japanese Buddhist monks, we think about the origin of ingredients, what we put in our mouths and why we eat certain foods.
Study in English
The courses of the Finnish Adult Education Centre offer a wide range of many courses in many different language groups. Bilingual courses are also ideal opportunities to practise a foreign language for Finnish-speaking students.
Art courses include drawing and painting courses, where the languages of instruction are English and Russian. There is also an art course for Ukrainian speakers in their own language.
The bilingual sewing courses will teach you how to use a sewing machine, the details of sewing and how to refurbish clothes while talking in Finnish and English.
You can also study making electronic music, basics in guitar playing, graphic design, making short films or IT in English.
Drama and theatre enthusiasts can participate in making international theatre in the English-language Theatre Vuosaari group.
