The new building will provide daycare centres Päiväpirtti and Topelius with new, comfortable and pedagogically appropriate premises suitable for their operations. In addition, the number of early childhood education places will be increased in the area.
The daycare centre will be built in connection with Sibelius Park at the address Rajasaarentie 6 near the seashore. In order to take account of the environment, a general architectural competition was held in 2021 for the design of the daycare centre, the winning work of which was used as a basis for continuing the design of the building and its yard areas.
The new construction project is necessary because the current premises of Päiväpirtti and Topelius are in poor condition and do not meet the current requirements of early childhood education. Of the 168 early childhood education places available in the new building, 49 will be new.
For the duration of the demolition and construction work, daycare centre Päiväpirtti’s operations will be moved to temporary facilities located near the Olympic Stadium at the address Mäntymäentie 1.
Preliminary schedules
According to plans, the demolition of the current daycare centre building will begin this year. Construction work is estimated to begin in early 2025. If the schedule is adhered to, the construction work will be completed in the summer of 2026. The premises will be furnished before commissioning.
In addition to the design of the building, preparations have been made for a change of the local detailed plan for the plots of the daycare centre and the adjacent Villa Bråvalla. The change must also become final before the start of construction work.
