Six residents and two employees of Roihuvuori senior centre have been found to be infected with the coronavirus. The first infections in residents were detected on Sunday 8 August. The infected residents are from the same group home.
As a precaution, all of the residents of the group home have been tested for the coronavirus. The residents are being treated in quarantine-like conditions in their own rooms.
“The testing of the residents was organised quickly. We are now doing everything we can to prevent the coronavirus from spreading in the senior centre,” says Service District Director Maritta Haavisto.
All of the infected residents have received two coronavirus vaccine doses.
“A complete vaccination series provides good protection against severe forms of COVID-19. So far, the majority of the infected residents have suffered only mild or moderate symptoms, but we continue to monitor everyone’s condition closely,” Haavisto continues.
The source of the infection is still unknown and being investigated by the Epidemiological Operations Unit.
The families of the group home’s residents have been informed of the situation. Visits to group homes are currently prohibited, but friends and family members can contact residents by phone, for example.
