The persons next in line for coronavirus vaccination in Helsinki are 75–79-year-olds, i.e. those born in 1942–1946. Their informal carers who have been approved for informal care support will also be vaccinated.
You can make a vaccination appointment online at koronarokotus.hel.fi or by calling the appointment booking line 09 310 46300. The appointment booking number is available on weekdays 8:00–18:00. You can start booking vaccination appointments on Wednesday 24 February. Informal carers can only make appointments by telephone.
“We urge as many people as possible to make the vaccination appointment online. We have strived to make the online booking service as easy to use as possible. The fastest way to get an appointment is through the online booking service,” says Director of Health and Substance Abuse Services Leena Turpeinen.
The 75–79-year-olds scheduled for vaccination will receive a separate notification to their home address.
Vaccinations are being carried out at the vaccination points of Jätkäsaari, Messukeskus, Malmi and Myllypuro.
More age groups
will be covered as more vaccine doses become available
Vaccines will be administered without delay as they become available, in accordance with the national order of vaccination.
According to Turpeinen, the vaccinations have gone to plan. “We could vaccinate significantly more people if more doses were available,” Turpeinen says.
The COVID-19 vaccinations of Helsinki residents aged 80 and above will continue. So far, 65% of Helsinki residents aged 80 and above have received the first vaccine jab. 88% of people aged 85 and above have received their first jab.
“Among people who will either be turning 80 this year or are already older, as well as their informal carers, those who are yet to be vaccinated can still book appointments. We will also be calling all people aged 80 and above, if they have not yet booked a vaccination appointment,” Turpeinen says.
Elderly residents are being vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. Two shots of the vaccine are administered at an interval of 12 weeks, in accordance with the National Institute for Health and Welfare’s recommendation. The appointment for the second vaccination is set in conjunction with the first vaccination.
Home care customers
will be informed of the vaccinations by their home care nurses
In addition to being sent a general notification, home care customers will be informed of the vaccinations by their home care nurses. Home care customers who are scheduled for vaccination can also get vaccinated at a vaccination point. Those who can physically do so are encouraged to visit a vaccination point.
“Due to the many limitations related to the storage, production and preservation of the Pfizer vaccine, it cannot be administered in homes as easily as an influenza vaccine,” Helsinki City Hospital’s Medical Director Laura Pikkarainen says.
“However, home care services can administer the vaccine at home to customers who cannot get to a vaccination point. This must be agreed upon separately with the home services,” Pikkarainen adds.
Home care customers are also vaccinated in accordance with the national vaccination order.
Mobile vaccination teams are currently vaccinating residents of 24-hour care housing facilities for disabled people, mental health patients and substance abuse patients as well as the elderly patients of Helsinki City Hospital.
Persons younger
than 70 are vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine
The AstraZeneca vaccine is not recommended to patients aged 70 and above. This is why the AstraZeneca vaccines are used for persons younger than 70. Currently, vaccines are being administered to Helsinki residents aged between 55 and 69 who are highly susceptible to severe COVID-19 due to an illness.
In addition to them, the members of social and health care personnel who are currently scheduled for vaccination will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.
