The persons next in line for coronavirus vaccination in Helsinki are 80–84-year-olds, i.e. those born in 1937–1941. Their informal carers who have been approved for informal care support will also be vaccinated.

February. Informal carers can only make appointments by telephone.
“We strongly urge as many people as possible to make the vaccination appointment online. We have strived to make the online booking service as easy to use as possible. The fastest way to get an appointment is through the online booking services,” says Director of Health and Substance Abuse Services Leena
Turpeinen.
“Younger age groups will get their turn to get vaccinated at a later date. We hope that everyone stays patient and will not unnecessarily clog the appointment booking line,” Turpeinen adds.
Vaccines will be administered as they become available, in accordance with the national order of vaccination.
The group about to be vaccinated next will receive a separate notification to their home address.
The COVID-19 vaccinations of Helsinki residents aged 85 and above will also continue.
“Among people who will either be turning 85 this year or are already older, as well as their informal carers, those who are yet to be vaccinated can still book appointments,” Turpeinen says as a reminder.
For the moment, vaccinations are organised in Myllypuro, Malmi and Jätkäsaari.
Elderly residents are being vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. Two shots of the vaccine are administered at an interval of 12 weeks, in accordance with the National Institute for Health and Welfare’s recommendation. The appointment for the second vaccination is set in conjunction with the first vaccination.
Home care customers will be informed of the
vaccinations by their home care nurses
In addition to being sent a general notification, home care customers will be informed of the vaccinations by their home care nurses. Home care customers who are scheduled for vaccination can also get vaccinated at a vaccination point. Those who can physically do so are encouraged to visit a vaccination point.
“Due to the many limitations related to the storage, production and preservation of the Pfizer vaccine, it cannot be administered in homes as easily as an influenza vaccine,” Helsinki City Hospital’s Medical Director Laura Pikkarainen says.
“However, home care services can administer the vaccine at home to customers who cannot get to a vaccination point. This must be agreed upon separately with the home services,” Pikkarainen adds.
Home care customers are also vaccinated in accordance with the national vaccination order.

rehabilitation wards
The vaccination of the patients of Oulunkylä Rehabilitation Hospital, Aurora psychogeriatric ward, short-term care and acute rehabilitation will begin in week six. The vaccine will be offered to patients aged 80 and above. Vaccine recipients will be notified separately.
