The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) recommends that those who spend a lot of time in nature get vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis in the following areas in Helsinki: South Laajasalo, Jollas/Villinki, Kivinokka, West Herttoniemi, Roihuvuori.
Tick-borne encephalitis is an infection transmitted by ticks. The TBE vaccine protects against tick-borne encephalitis. While the TBE vaccine is often called a 'tick vaccine', it does not protect you against ticks or prevent a tick from attaching itself to your skin. The most common disease spread by ticks is borreliosis, i.e. Lyme disease. There is no vaccine against this.
Make arrangements to receive the TBE vaccine by taking the following steps:
- Contact your local health station and ask for a prescription for a TBE vaccination. You can do this by sending a message in Maisa (Link leads to external service)or by calling the health station.
See the contact information for health stations - Go to the pharmacy with the prescription and buy a dose of the vaccine.
- Go to the vaccination point and bring the vaccine along. TBE vaccines are given without appointment from the vaccination points of Jätkäsaari and Malmi.
