Many youth centres host games nights with PC, console, board and card games. Some youth centres also host late-night hang outs and discos. Outings, FIFA and futsal tournaments and cosplay accessories and clothes printing workshops are also organised for young people during autumn break. Young people can also participate in laid-back, free of charge activities together, such as film nights and cooking as well as just hang out without prior sign-ups. All youth centre activities are guided by youth work professionals.

Outdoor activities in playgrounds

City of Helsinki playgrounds offer outings, outdoor activities, exercise, games and playing during the autumn break week. The programme will also include activities for small children with songs and colour games. Babies will also have their own activities. Playgrounds are open on Monday to Friday at 9.00–16.00.

The programme will be provided in Finnish and it will be free of charge. Parents have the opportunity to get to know more families with babies and children and the children can find new friends to play with. You can warm up your own meals and make coffee or tea at playgrounds.

Playground instructors are present in the park for the children and will create a safe environment i.e. peace to play, items for children to play with and care for school-children, when appropriate.

Crafts at the City Museum

During the autumn break, you can try your hand at stitching images the old-fashioned way and decorating photographs with yarn. You can also colour the images with coloured pencils. The crafts workshop organised in the Falkman wing of the museum is open to all and free of charge.

Explore reading, games and science workshops at libraries

The autumn break is for reading! Go to your local library and get lost in stories. In addition to a peaceful space to read, libraries also provide plenty of activities during autumn break. Build the city of the future in the LEGO workshop at Kallio Library, play boardgames at Kannelmäki Library and participate in a pirate-themed escape game in the Maunula and Paloheinä Libraries. More detailed information on activities during the autumn break can be found on library websites.

During autumn break, you can dive into the wonderful world of children’s non-fiction books at Oodi. Workshops organised by science centre Heureka feature football tactics, the chemistry of everyday kitchen ingredients as well as the most interesting corners of the space, and much more!
