Prevention of RSV infections in young children begins in maternity hospitals and maternity and child health clinics

RSV can cause serious respiratory infections in young children. To combat this, we offer an injectable medicine for babies under 3 months of age.
The aim is to prevent the majority of infant hospitalizations caused by RSV.

Babies born on or after 1 August 2024 will receive the injection during a visit to the maternity and child health clinic in October and November. In the future, HUS will administer the medicine at the maternity hospital during the discharge examination.

Additionally, HUS provides the medicine to children under 1 year of age who are at risk for severe RSV infections.

For more information on preventing RSV infections, please contact the public health nurse at your maternity and child health clinic.
