Around 800 residents and 100 businesses took part in surveys about the vitality of the city centre. The surveys have helped gather valuable information for those who write the report on the vision for the development of the city centre and for those who plan out the measures.
The report concerning the vitality of the city centre will offer a view on potential measures based on strong external expertise. The report will be published in January 2025. The City’s and the business sector’s joint vision for the development of the city centre will also be published at the end of January.
– We thank everyone who responded to the surveys for important opinions and ideas. The vision project for the city centre has involved working with stakeholders and businesses in two workshops. During these, we have analysed the success factors for the future of the city centre and outlined a common vision for the development. The work will eventually lead to a summary of actions for the future. Around these actions, we can build bridges of fruitful cooperation between the City and the business sector, says Chief specialist Timo Hämäläinen from City of Helsinki’s Economic Development Department.
Representatives of the business sector have convergent views on the direction of the development
The following list of success factors for the future of the city centre has been compiled on the basis of the survey for businesses and the results from the business workshop, and they require further joint consideration:
- strengthening the dialogue and joint development between the City and the business sector,
- winning the competition for people’s spare time,
- increasing the number of people living in the city centre,
- improving accessibility and mobility in the city centre, and
- responding to the changed needs of working life.
These themes set the framework for the definition of the goals that add value from the City’s and the business sector’s point of view and the actions that contribute to the goals in question.
This process is promoted by the cooperation group between the City of Helsinki and the business sector (HELY), which works to improve the vitality of the city centre.
