This survey covers the winter maintenance of pavements, cycling lanes and streets, as well as the outdoor recreation routes and park pathways that are cleared of snow in the winter. Additionally, you will also be able to give feedback on the maintenance of paths through the yards of city properties (schools, day-care centres). Responding will take approximately 5–10 minutes.
You can answer the survey in Finnish, Swedish or English.

Feedback is used to develop winter maintenance
Helsinki develops its winter maintenance constantly. This winter, the city has maintained residential streets at a higher priority. As a rule, residential streets are cleared within 12 hours, whereas before, residents may have had to wait three days for snowploughs.
Winter cycling and walking have been made easier by expanding the enhanced winter maintenance routes, which now cover about 140 kilometres of cycling routes and almost as many adjacent walking routes.
"The city residents’ feedback is very important to us. The results of this survey let us know if we’re developing our operations in the right way", says Team Manager Toni Rantanen from the Urban Environment Division’s street maintenance unit.
Winter street maintenance in Helsinki
The streets of Helsinki are always cleared according to predefined maintenance classes: The main roads, public transport streets, and main pedestrian and cycling routes are cleared first. After them, it is the turn of the residential streets.
The City is responsible for the winter maintenance of streets, cycling lanes and pavements in suburban areas. In the urban centre, winter maintenance of the pavements as well as disposal of cleared snow are the responsibility of the property owners.
Front doors and the primary paths for them at schools and daycare centres are also the City’s responsibility. In addition to the primary paths, we also remove the snow and slush from the parking areas.
