The Kamppi Metro Station’s escalators on Fredrikinkatu entrance to be closed for the weekend 5–7 May

All escalators of Kamppi Metro Station’s Fredrikinkatu entrance will be out of order starting from Friday, 5 May, 18.00 onwards. The escalators will be back in use on Monday, 8 May, by the time the metro starts running.

While the escalators are closed, the easiest way to access the metro platform is through the Kamppi Shopping Centre. The elevators of the metro station’s Fredrikinkatu entrance are in use, but these are expected to become congested.

Starting from Monday morning, 8 May, two escalators will be opened on the metro station’s entrance on Fredrikinkatu’s side, one of them going up and one down. The third escalator will remain closed until further notice.

Closing the escalators temporarily is necessary, as a temporary protective wall will be built between the escalators. The escalators will be fully renovated in the coming years.

The stair works are part of ongoing pre-construction

The City is improving the infrastructure in the Kamppi area in preparation for the construction of the new health and well-being centre. The work is commissioned by the City of Helsinki and carried out by YIT.

The work for moving the municipal technology cables is also continuing in the street areas surrounding the Fredrikinkatu ticket hall of Kamppi Metro Station.

Similar work will also be started in a smaller scale in May in the local transport (Espoo) bus terminal located underneath the Kamppi Shopping Centre. This work will have a minor effect on where the arriving buses will allow their passengers to disembark into the terminal.

If the detailed city plan allowing the construction of the new health and well-being centre comes into force, the building works will be started around the turn of the year 2023–2024.
