Public transport

  • Tram traffic will be shifted to detour routes on 2 September. Read more in HRT’s news.
  • There will be temporary stops for tram traffic on Reijolankatu.
  • Bus traffic will continue on the same diversion routes. The locations of stops on Mannerheimintie will change as the renovation progresses. Read more about stops in HRT’s news.

Motor vehicles:

The changes will start on Thursday 5 September and will be effective on Friday 6 September.

On Mannerheimintie, one lane is in use in both directions through the work area for the duration of the renovation. However, the reduced number of driving lanes may cause congestion. The number of lanes will be returned to normal after the renovation.

  • A reduced speed limit of 30 km/h is in force throughout the renovation area.
  • The drive-through of motor vehicles from Päivärinnankatu is closed.
  • Also closed from drive-through are Sibeliuksenkatu, Sallinkatu, Savilankatu, Ruusankatu and Minna Canthin katu at Ruusankatu.
  • Driving to properties is allowed from the direction of the opposite street. An exception is Ruusankatu, where access to the properties is from the direction of Mannerheimintie. The driving directions of cross streets change as the work areas move.
  • The access of rescue vehicles and taxis to door fronts will be maintained.
  • Parking spaces will be removed at the ends of closed cross streets due to vehicle turnout areas.
  • After the renovation, Ruusankatu, Savilankatu and Sallinkatu will be permanently one-way streets.

Pedestrian access:

  • The pavements on both sides of Mannerheimintie will remain in use during the early stages of the renovation.
  • However, there will be changes to the routes as the work progresses. Access to all staircases and brick and mortar premises will be maintained throughout the renovation.
  • Some of Mannerheimintie’s pedestrian crossings will be closed, but there are replacement pedestrian crossings nearby. Ten pedestrian crossings will remain between Runeberginkatu and Reijolankatu.
  • Light-controlled pedestrian crossings will be maintained at Reijolankatu, Nordenskiöldinkatu, Toivonkatu and Runeberginkatu. On Toivonkatu, traffic lights are in use for the time being at the beginning of the renovation.
  • The pavement on the north side of Reijolankatu will be converted to a combined pedestrian and bicycle path for the duration of the work.

Bicycle traffic

  • There is no separate bicycle route on Mannerheimintie during the work, but cyclists should use the bicycle paths on the nearby streets. A route parallel to the construction site can be found at Urheilukatu.
  • The bicycle lane on Reijolankatu will be decommissioned in the direction of Mannerheimintie, and the adjacent pavement will be converted to a combined pedestrian and bicycle path.
