Recent events have shocked us all. Here we have gathered information on mental health services and crisis support helplines available to help children and young people in Helsinki.

On the Youth Helsinki website you can find information on ways to support your well-being and guidance on finding services that support your health, well-being and independence.

Mieppi 

The low-threshold Mental Health Service Unit Mieppi offers conversational support to promote mental well-being. Mieppi serves all young people over the age of 13 and adults. The Mieppi service units are located in Haaga, Kalasatama, Myllypuro and Pasila. You can visit any unit regardless of where you live.

If your mother tongue is not Finnish or Swedish, we can make use of an interpreter.

Crisis Emergency Services 

The Crisis Emergency Services are available around the clock at +358 9 3104 4222. The services provide acute emergency assistance in sudden crisis situations, such as the sudden death of a loved one, situations involving violence, serious injury or illness, and fire. Our services are free of charge. Call charge:  standard telephone charges apply.

Nuortennetti(Link leads to external service), MLL – The Mannerhein League for Child Welfare 

The Nuortennetti chat service for children and young people is available Sundays–Wednesdays at 17.00–20.00. The Finnish-language telephone service for children and young people is available every day of the year on +358 116 111, weekdays at 14.00–20.00 and weekends at 17.00–20.00. The telephone service is available in Swedish on +358 800 96 116, Mondays and Tuesdays at 14.00–17.00 and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 14.00–20.00.  You can contact us anonymously. The calls are not recorded.

Talking about violence news with children(Link leads to external service), MLL – The Mannerhein League for Child Welfare 

News about incidents of violence easily reach school children and even younger children, which may leave the children feeling confused and frightened. Even adults may find it difficult to understand what has happened and to find answers to children’s questions. Adults can help children simply by being present, listening and staying calm.

Crisis Helpline, MIELI Mental Health Finland 

The MIELI Crisis Helpline(Link leads to external service) in Finnish is open 24/7 on +358 9 2525 0111.

The helpline provides guidance and help when you are dealing with difficult life situations, have gone through a traumatic event, or are having self-destructive thoughts.

The Swedish-language helpline is available on +358 9 2525 0112, Mondays and Wednesdays at 16.00–20.00 and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 9.00–13.00. 

The English-language helpline is available on +358 9 2525 0116 on Fridays at 9.00–13.00. 

The helpline also offers help in Ukrainian on +358 9 2525 0114, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12.00–16.00 and Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.00–13.00. Help in Russian is available on +358 9 2525 0115, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12.00–16.00 and Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.00–13.00. 

Sekasin chat 

The Sekasin chat service in Finnish(Link leads to external service) is open every day, weekdays at 9.00–24.00 and weekends at 15.00–24.00. The Sekasin chat service in Swedish(Link leads to external service) is open on weekdays at 15.00–19.00. The chat service is aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 29.

Crisis Services for Youth, HelsinkiMissio 

The Crisis Services for Youth(Link leads to external service)provides free and confidential counselling and crisis help for young people between the ages of 12 and 29, including young couples and young families. 

Poikien Puhelin, Väestöliitto, the Family Federation of Finland

Poikien Puhelin(Link leads to external service)(Boys’ Phone) is a helpline and online service for boys and young men. Calls in Finnish are answered on +358 800 94884, from Monday to Thursday at 13.00–18.00 and Fridays at 13.00-16.00. Calls in Swedish are answered on Tuesdays at 15.30–18.00 and Thursdays at 13.00–15.30 on the same number.

The service offers a listening ear, a person to talk to and useful information for all problems and situations in life. The call is free of charge to the caller and can be made anonymously. 

Finnish Central Association for Mental Health  

The Valoa chatroom(Link leads to external service)provides guidance on mental health on weekdays at 12.00–15.00. The chat service is run by social welfare and health care professionals. 

The Mental Health Helpline is available on +358 203 91920(Link starts a phone call) every weekday at 10.00–15.00 (call charges: €0.835/call + €16,69/minute). You can call the counselling service when you need support or counselling for any matters related to mental health problems. 
 
A free peer-support phone service is available on +358 800 177 599(Link starts a phone call) every weekday at 10.00–15.00. Calls are answered by peers with with personal experience of mental health problems who are immediately available to you.
