Kelkkapuisto park in Kontula is a pleasant park, built on top of an old landfill hill. The park contains a popular skate park that was completed in 2020, a basketball field and extensive grass areas. The park also has a dog pen. In winter, the park turns into a popular sledging location. The park has also established itself as a venue for various events, such as concerts and outdoor exercise classes.
More park activities for people of different ages
The City is planning on introducing new activities to the park. The objective is to attract more local residents to spend time at the park in the future. However, the planning process aims to ensure that the new activity points blend in with the rest of the park as well as possible. The skate park, dog park and hills will remain in the park.
A new play area is being planned for the park. We hope that residents, children and young people in particular will submit ideas for a play area theme. The theme will be incorporated into playground equipment, for example.
Plenty of new activities, such as exercise stairs, an outdoor gym, a full-size basketball court and a field with artificial turf and goals, have been planned for those who want to be active and exercise.
In addition to this, features that make the park even more comfortable, such as a barbecue spot, tables and seating as well as a pavilion with a bathroom, have been planned for the park. Some more unusual activities have also been proposed for the park: a pump track for skateboarders and cyclists as well as a rug washing area.
Tell us what you think of the preliminary plans
The City is hoping for feedback from residents on the current preliminary plans for the park in spring 2025. You can voice your opinion on the Kelkkapuisto park plans by responding to an online survey. The survey can be taken until 27 April 2025. In addition to the online survey, you can also offer input on the plans in workshops that will be arranged in particular for children, young people and families with children.

March–April 2025
The City has drawn up a preliminary plan on potential new activities introduced to the park. An online survey will be open in the spring to collect feedback on the preliminary plans. In the survey, you can tell us what you think of the current Kelkkapuisto park and what you think of the preliminary plans.
In addition to this, workshops for children, young people and families with children, in particular, will be held in Kontula. In the workshops, you can share your thoughts with City planning officers on what you like about the park, what you would like to include in the park and what you think of the preliminary plans.

Autumn 2025
City planning officers will read all of the feedback received. After this, they will draft a plan for the park, which will then be approved by the Urban Environment Committee.
Once the City has approved the plan, the more detailed planning of the activities included in the park can begin. At this stage, the drafting of structural drawings can begin to allow for more detailed plans for the future exercise, recreation and play equipment of the park.

The renovation of the park progresses step by step. The detailed planning and construction of some features is quick, while others take more time. Detailed schedules will be established once the plan for the park is complete and the more detailed construction plans have been finalised.
