Basic level Finnish courses (beginner and advanced) are divided into a slow path and a regular path.
- The slow path takes three semesters from level 0 to A2.2
- The regular path takes two semesters.
- The illiterate level course is part of adult basic education.
Most of the courses are intensive. Classes are four days a week.
The total workload of the course consists of
- lessons in school (16 lessons), and
- independent work at home (6 hours).
You will be given plenty of homework, which is an important part of the course. Due to the intensive nature of the course, students are required to attend 100% of the lessons. You must arrive on time and cannot leave in the middle of a lesson.
In addition to the intensive courses, there are also two-day beginner and advanced evening courses available. Advanced courses 2 to 4 and general upper secondary school courses are all two-day evening courses. Some of the general upper secondary school courses can also be taken online.
The language of instruction on all courses is Finnish.
- Absolute beginners course (entry level 0)
- Advanced course (entry level A1.3 / A2.1)
- Advanced course 2 (entry level A2.2)
- Advanced course 3 (entry level B1.1)
- Advanced course 4 (entry level B1.2)
- General upper secondary school courses (entry level B1.2)
The course levels (A1.1-B2.1) and assessment are based on the Common European Framework. For more information, see the European Council webpages(Link leads to external service).
