The current daycare centres in the Pasila district are full, and according to the population forecast for the area, more places will be needed in the future. In addition, the current premises of daycare centre Hertta at Leankatu 6 are in poor condition and in need of renovation.

According to the project plan, the new building will have early childhood education facilities for approximately 140 children, while the current facilities accommodate 60 children. The new daycare centre is part of a block complex where three hundred apartments will be built. The daycare centre premises will be located on two floors below the new residential building. According to the plan, the premises will be accompanied by a playground with unobstructed access from the daycare centre to the yard area and Keskuspuisto.

The new premises are expected to be completed in July 2026

The future building will be owned and built by Hoivatilat Oy.

The Buildings and Public Areas Sub-committee of the Urban Environment Committee will discuss the leasing of premises from Hoivatilat Oy and the daycare centre’s project plan on 31 October. The plan will also require approval from the City Board. In practice, approval of the project plan is a decision on the implementation of the project.

If decision-making proceeds as planned, the construction of the new premises will begin in January–February 2025. The new premises would thus be completed around July 2026. The office building that was located on the plot at Radiokatu 20 has already been demolished.
