Health and social services in Helsinki during summer 2024

Over the summer period, help for urgent matters will continue to be available to you around the clock, and many services will provide services as usual. In the case of some services, opening hours will be shorter than usual, and some service points will be closed.

E-services available around the clock  

The Sotebotti Hester chatbot provides guidance on health and social services at hel.fi/health-and-social-services. During the daytime service hours, if necessary, you can switch over to the chat service to talk with a professional.

In the Omaolo service(Link leads to external service), you can assess your symptoms using the symptom checker and receive instructions on next steps to take. If necessary, the service connects you with a professional in your area at any time of the day.

Through the Maisa client portal(Link leads to external service),  you can easily reach out to your health station regarding non-urgent matters.

In the MyKanta service(Link leads to external service) , you can request prescription renewals and access your health information.

Urgent and emergency care 

Complete an online symptom assessment at www.omaolo.fi(Link leads to external service). Omaolo provides health advice around the clock and puts you in contact with a healthcare professional if necessary.

On weekdays between 8.00 and 16.00, call your own health station.

At other times, call the Medical Helpline, tel. 116 117(Link starts a phone call). Please call before seeking treatment at a unit providing urgent and emergency care. Patients requiring urgent assistance in the evening, on weekends and during holidays can receive care at the joint emergency services of Malmi, Meilahti, Jorvi and Peijas hospitals as well as the New Children’s Hospital.

Health stations  

Jakomäki Health Station will be closed from 24 June to 28 July. However, alternative arrangements have been made for clients during this period. Clients of Jakomäki Health Station can turn to Malmi Health Station, Talvelantie 4, tel. +358 9 310 57702(Link starts a phone call).

The health stations in Haaga, Kivelä, Kivikko, Kontula, Lauttasaari, Malmi, Maunula, Malminkartano, Munkkiniemi, Myllypuro, Oulunkylä, Paloheinä, Pihlajamäki, Pitäjänmäki, Puistola and Viiskulma will be open from 17 June to 1 September between 8.00 and 16.00 (no evening appointments available).

Kannelmäki Health Station will be open from 17 June to 14 August on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 8.00 and 16.00, and Wednesdays from 8.00 to 16.00.
Kalasatama Health Station will be open from 17 June to 18 August on weekdays from 8.00 to 16.00 (no evening appointments available).
Ruoholahti Health Station will be open during the summer period on weekdays from 8.00 to 16.00 (no evening appointments available).

The wound clinic will be closed from 15 July to 4 August. During this time, clients can turn to their own health stations for care.
Centralised contraceptive counselling will be unavailable from 8 July to 21 July. During this time, clients with urgent needs can turn to their own health stations for care. 
The eye screening unit will be closed from 8 July to 4 August.

Dental care services  

Dental care appointment booking will be available during the summer, from Monday to Thursday between 7.00 and 18.00 and on Fridays between 7.00 and 15.00, tel. +358 9 310 51400(Link starts a phone call).  

You can also schedule an appointment at any dental clinic office. The dental care chat is available on weekdays between 8.00 and 15.00 at www.hel.fi/dentalcare

If you need urgent dental care, book an appointment through Maisa or by calling the customer service number, tel. +358 9 310 51400(Link starts a phone call) on weekdays between 7.00 and 14.00.

  • Kivelä Dental Clinic, orthodontic care, will be closed from 8 July to 2 August.

  • Kontula Health Station Dental Clinic will be closed from 15 July to 26 July. 
  • Laajasalo Health Station Dental Clinic will be closed from 1 July to 26 July.

  • Pihlajamäki Dental Clinic, basic care, will be closed from 8 July to 9 August.

Psychiatric services  

Mieppi’s mental health service units in Haaga and Myllypuro will be closed from 8 July to 4 August. 
Mieppi’s mental health service units in Kalasatama and Pasila will not have evening appointments available from 8 July to 4 August.
The psychiatric outpatient clinics in Kalasatama, Laakso, Malmi and Vuosaari will not have evening appointments available from 3 June to 30 August.
The psychiatric day wards 8-1 and 10 at Aurora Hospital will be closed from 1 July to 28 July.
The Centre for Bipolar Disorder Research and Care will be closed from 1 July to 4 August.
The Group Therapy Centre will be closed from 1 July to 4 August. 
The neuropsychiatric working group will be closed from 1 July to 28 July.
The mood disorder outpatient clinics’ intensive outpatient treatment working groups will not hold group activities from 1 July to 4 August.
Paediatric special clinics will be closed from 15 July to 28 July.
The brief therapy unit will be closed from 8 July to 19 July. No evening appointments will be available from 19 July to 4 August.

Substance abuse services

The Mobile Symppis health advice service will be closed from 24 June to 21 July.
Kontula Symppis day activities will not be organised from 1 July to 14 July. Health counselling at Kontula Symppis will be available as usual throughout the summer.
Sörkka Symppis day activities in Sörnäinen will not be organised from 15 July to 28 July. Health counselling at Sörkka Symppis will be available as usual throughout the summer.
Itis Symppis will provide services as usual throughout the summer. 
The substance abuse outpatient clinics in Kalasatama, Laakso, Malmi and Vuosaari will be open from 3 June to 28 August between 8.00 and 16.00 (with substitution therapy provided between 7.00 and 16.00).

Maternity and child health clinic services

The maternity and child health clinics’ telephone service will be open from 17 June to 11 August on weekdays between 8.00 and 12.00, tel. +358 9 310 55530(Link starts a phone call)

The maternity and child health clinics’ chat service will be open from 17 June to 11 August on weekdays between 8.00 and 12.00. 

The Sotebotti Hester chatbot is available around the clock every day of the week.

The family centres of Itäkatu, Kallio, Kamppi and Vuosaari will be open from 17 June to 11 August on weekdays between 8.00 and 16.00. 
Jakomäki Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be closed from 24 June to 28 July. During this time, its clients will receive services at Puistola Maternity and Child Health Clinic (nurse’s appointments) and at Malmi Maternity and Child Health Clinic (doctor’s appointments). 
Suutarila Maternity and Child Health Clinic will be closed for renovation from 1 July to 12 August. During this time, services will be provided at the maternity and child health clinics in Malmi and Malmin raitti.

The other maternity and child health clinics will be open throughout the summer on weekdays between 8.00 and 16.00.  

Maternity and child health clinics will be providing nurse’s checks for pregnant women and children up to the age of two, as well as other essential assessments, from 17 June to 11 August.

Special services for families  

The following special services for families will be unavailable from 15 July to 28 July:

  • Psychologist services at the maternity and child health clinic  
  • Couples therapy  
  • Speech therapy for children  
  • Therapeutic work for families with babies 

Student health care

Student health care services will be accessible in nearly all educational institutions until Midsummer. Public health nurses are best reached by phone or through the available e-service channels. Alternatively, you can submit a contact request through Wilma or via email.

The centralised student health care service will operate throughout the summer at Mechelininkatu 46 A, 4th floor. You can book an appointment by phone, tel. +358 40 662 4166(Link starts a phone call). These services are aimed at students and young people, including individuals who are not in education, employment or training.

Social services  

The Sotebotti Hester chatbot is available on the around the clock on the health and social services webpages.

The Pakila Work Centre will be closed from 1 July to 28 July.

Social rehabilitation will be unavailable from 1 July to 28 July. 
Social lending and financial counselling services will be unavailable from 8 July to 21 July. 

Work and day activities for people with disabilities   

The following work and day activities units will be closed from 1 July to 28 July:

If needed, activities will be organised at the Kalasatama Activity Centre for clients who need the services and live in families.

The Disability Outpatient Clinic at Sofianlehdonkatu 8 (Building A) and the telephone service will be closed from 1 July to 28 July. Clients in special care will get somatic care as usual at their own health station. In emergency situations, clients can receive treatment at the joint emergency services or emergency social services.  

Senior services  

Senior Info will be open as usual all summer, tel. +358 9 310 44556(Link starts a phone call) on weekdays between 9.00 and 15.00.

The assistive device services’ mobile unit will be closed from 25 June to 30 July.

The Geriatric Outpatient Clinic’s reception and memory coordinator activities (Sturenkatu 8) will be unavailable from 8 July to 21 July.
The Palliative Outpatient Clinic (Suursuo Hospital, Suursuonlaita 3 B) will be closed from 8 July to 28 July. Patients can contact their local hospital for assistance.

Rehabilitation of frontline veterans (Lääkärinkatu 6 C) will be unavailable from 22 July to 4 August.
Services to support frontline veterans living at home (Mannerheimintie 168 b) will be unavailable from 22 July to 18 August.
