Renovations starting at Aino Ackté Villa

The City of Helsinki will begin technical renovations on Aino Ackté Villa, located in the Tullisaari Park in Laajasalo, in the late spring of 2023. The work is estimated to be completed in the late summer of 2024.

The repairs will mark the start of work to make Aino Ackté Villa available for summer use.

The project was planned with the conservation values of the villa and its surroundings in mind. The work will start with repairs to secure the preservation of the building.

The repairs will involve first overhauling the building services installations and improving the natural ventilation. Damaged parts of the structures and the roof will also be repaired, and surface and structural layers damaged by moisture will be overhauled.

Several condition surveys have been conducted on the villa. Structures will be opened as the work progresses, whereby the final extent of the repairs needed will be specified.

The work will start in April

The worksite will be established at the end of April 2023. The nearby paths and lawn area will be fenced off and reserved for the worksite. Some traffic necessitated by the worksite will travel through the park. The work will be implemented by City of Helsinki construction services Stara.

Project plan approved

Repairs are decided on by the Buildings and Public Areas Sub-committee of the Urban Environment Committee. The sub-committee approved the proposal to approve the project plan on Thursday 20 April. A total of 2.5 million euros has been budgeted for the repairs.

Helsinki residents are interested in the villa renovation, and the project was funded with the City’s participatory budgeting funds through an OmaStadi voting process. The building is expected to continue to have repair needs in the coming years. For example, the interior wall surfaces need restoration and the external walls need painting.

Aino Ackté Villa was completed in 1877 and is protected in the detailed plan. The two-storey wooden villa was designed in the neo-renaissance style by architect Theodor Decker for summer use. The villa is located in the Tullisaari Park in Laajasalo, which is valuable in terms of cultural history, garden architecture and the landscape alike. The building is owned by the City.
