The new section will have five stories, and it will be built on the west side of the current Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre at Jauhokuja 4. It is expected to be completed in 2027.
The building will be partially built over the metro track, and a new entrance will be built on the northern entrance of the Myllypuro metro station. An expansion to the centre’s parking garage and a new maintenance yard will also be built.
Expanded range of services
In the future, East Helsinki's health and wellbeing centre services will be concentrated in two locations, Vuosaari and Myllypuro. A local service point is planned in Kontula.
The expansion project of the Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre enables the provision of cross-sectoral services to customers at one location and enhances timely access to treatment.
The aim is to place versatile health and wellbeing services for residents of Myllypuro, Vartiokylä, Mellunkylä and Östersundom in the Myllypuro centre with extensive opening hours. According to the current plan, the Myllypuro centre will provide the following services in 2028:
- Health centre services
- Dental services
- Physical & occupational therapy
- Nutritional therapy and podiatry
- Social services for young people and adults
- Basic mental health and substance abuse services
- Specialized medical care services (e.g. Diabetes Centre)
- Service guidance for the elderly
- Laboratory and X-ray services
- Café/Restaurant.
The services from Kontula and Kivikko health stations will move into the renovated Myllypuro building after the construction project is fully complete, which is estimated to take place in 2028. The centre will provide services for an estimated number of 80,000 inhabitants in 2035.
The staff, customers and area residents are actively involved in the development of the Centre's operations. Systematic participatory work has been ongoing for several years.
Environmental impact of the project
Efforts will be made to reduce the inconvenience caused by the construction project, but the work will temporarily cause noise and traffic disturbances, as well as changes to the traffic routes in the vicinity and the northern entrance of the metro station.
A temporary project office has been established at Ryynikuja for planning cooperation.
