Kallio summer streets

The project in brief

The City of Helsinki is preparing summer streets for the Kallio district. The objective of the project is to make temporary improvements to the area's walking environment and comfort for the 2025 and 2026 summer seasons. The idea is to make the summer streets available from May to the end of September in 2025 and 2026.

Summer street measures are particularly targeted at the areas surrounding Fleminginkatu, Porthaninkatu, Vaasankatu and Hämeentie. In addition to this, individual sites will be implemented throughout the neighbourhood.

Features that enable lounging, restaurant terrace activities and cultural and artistic activities are planned for the streets.

Project interaction

The planning will involve local residents, companies and associations from the start. Interaction will be an active part of the entire planning process. The co-creation of the area ensures that the residents of Kallio and local operators are heard and feel at home in the summer streets. 

How to participate

A resident event that is open to all will be held at the Kallio Library on Wednesday 4 September 2024 at 16:00–18:00. You can also meet the designers at the pop up office in Kallio Library 5–6 September 2024.
