The Urban Environment Division’s customer service point at Työpajankatu 8 is closed on 8 November due to a staff development day. The telephone service is also closed.  

Urgent parking control requests concerning vehicles that are hindering traffic can be submitted by calling the number 09 310 70014. We will resume normal service on Monday 11 November.  

New Malmi Hospital

The city is planning to build a new hospital in Malmi. The new building will be built next to the current Malmi Hospital, and it is intended to be completed in 2032.

The new Malmi Hospital will be a rehabilitative hospital with a focus on geriatric acute care and rehabilitation and the further treatment of surgical patients.

Construction of the new Malmi Hospital is set to begin in 2029.

The project in brief

In the future, Malmi will be the second site of Helsinki Hospital. According to the 2030 hospital district vision for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the operations of the Helsinki Hospital will be divided between the Malmi and Meilahti–Laakso districts in the future.

The planning phase of the new Malmi Hospital will last until approximately 2028. The construction phase is planned to begin in 2029, and the premises are expected to be ready for use in 2032.

Architectural competition

The City of Helsinki is organising an architectural competition for the design of the new Malmi Hospital. The architectural competition will be held as a two-stage invitational competition.

Registration for the competition will open in November 2022. The two-stage invitational competition seeks fresh solutions for hospital design. The main goal of the competition is to design a good public space and a healing environment. 

The first phase of the invitational competition started in February 2023. Some of the designs were selected for the second phase, which began in January 2024. The aim is to publish the results of the competition in November 2024.

Construction schedule

The aim is to begin construction in 2029. The building and its surroundings are intended to be completed and operations to begin in 2032.
