Helsinki payroll stabilisation proceeding in accordance with objectives

The City of Helsinki’s payroll situation has been stabilised in accordance with the objectives. The number of salary errors corrected by Financial Management Services (Talpa), which is responsible for payroll calculation, is now higher than that of new errors. This year’s backlog of payroll errors, i.e. errors that have not been corrected within five working days, is no longer increasing.

In March–April, new payroll errors were found in an average of 3.4% of payslips, which corresponds to the intermediate target set for stabilising payroll calculation. Development work to reduce payroll errors will continue, especially in the Social Services, Health Care and Rescue Services Division and the Education Division. The work includes the development of other processes, operating methods and tools affecting salary payments and the reduction of manual labour.

Preparing for possible challenges in the summer and holiday seasons

The city has identified and anticipated possible payroll challenges in the summer and holiday seasons.

In the spring and summer, there will be exceptionally many increases in the salaries of city employees. In order to ensure the smooth payment of salaries and to be able to respond to contacts made by employees also in the summer, the number of staff in payroll and customer service will be kept high even during the holiday season. The city also requires Sarastia Oy, the supplier of the payroll system, to have a plan for the summer.
