Helsinki Baltic Herring Market, which has been held  at the Market Square since Sunday,  has faced strong wind and rain today. The weather forecast predicts severe gusts of wind and the safety of the market cannot be guaranteed under the expected weather conditions. The market will be closed for today, but will reopen tomorrow if weather conditions permit, and will remain open until Saturday, October 12th.

“Extreme weather conditions are at the core of safety planning for events. This time, we had to make this decision to ensure the safety of the public and vendors. Fortunately, there are still three days left of the market, and plenty of products will be available for purchase until Saturday,” says Stuba Nikula, CEO of the Helsinki Event Foundation, which is responsible for organizing the event.
