The City of Helsinki is preparing summer streets for the Kallio district. The objective of the project is to make temporary improvements to the area's walking environment and comfort for the 2025 and 2026 summer seasons. The idea is to make the summer streets available from May to the end of September. The focus areas in the project are Vaasankatu, Fleminginkatu and Porthaninkatu. In addition to the main focus areas, seating and greenery will be added here and there throughout the district.

The aim is to create a neighbourhood for peaceful mobility, where people walk, spend time and use the services in the area and the urban space more than before. Another key objective is to involve the local operators in the early stages of planning and implement the ideas and wishes that local residents, associations and companies have for the summer streets.

The co-creation of the area aims at ensuring that the residents of Kallio and local operators are heard and feel at home in the summer streets.

Come and join us in brainstorming!

A resident event that is open to all will be held at the Kallio Library on Wednesday 4 September 2024 at 16:00–18:00. You can also meet the designers at the pop up office in Kallio Library from 5 to 6 September 2024. The more detailed opening hours of the pop up office will be announced later. Dedicated discussion events will also be organised for local companies and associations.

The Urban Environment Committee will decide on the further planning and implementation of the project in November 2024.
