A new residential area for 3,800 residents and office space for approximately 2,000 employees will be built in Southern Postipuisto. The area is located north of Hakamäentie and the Rantarata coastal railway, bordered by Central Park, the Posti sorting centre and the Ilmala rail yard.
Southern Postipuisto is part of the northern Pasila ribbon development stretching from the Ilmala train station all the way to Metsäläntie. The planning of the area is focused on mimicking city centres and accommodating versatile operations – office space is built along the train station and the tracks, and residential blocks are mainly located in the centre of the area and along Central Park. The commercial hub of the area is formed around Sähketori square, which will feature shops selling daily consumer goods and other commercial premises.
Eckerönpuisto serves as a green corridor to Central Park, and the local daycare centre will be built on the southern edge of the park.
The land in the area is owned by the City of Helsinki, Posti Group Oyj and VR-Yhtymä Oyj.
Construction
Construction in the area started in October 2024 with the decontamination of soil because a shooting range and landfill used to operate in the area. After the decontamination work is complete, the construction of streets and municipal engineering can start. These are followed by the actual house building, which is set to begin in 2027. Construction work will then continue in phases for the following decade.

Mobility
Kustinpolku, the main pedestrian street in the area, runs through the entire ribbon development and connects Southern Postipuisto to Ilmala and Postipuisto. Space for the tram is reserved in the area, and in the future, the area will be connected to the Helsinki rail network. The cycling trunk network runs towards Pitäjänmäki and the city centre along Rantarata coastal railway.
