Booking spaces and equipment of the Culture and Leisure Division

The Culture and Leisure Division has different types of spaces and equipment that are available for booking. The booking methods vary depending on the type of premises.

Varaamo

Varaamo is on online booking service run by the City of Helsinki. Use the service to book the City of Helsinki’s public spaces, work stations and equipment.

The City of Helsinki’s Sports Services have roughly 70 sports halls and gyms as well as roughly 90 outdoor sports fields and courts. Customers can make separate seasonal reservations for Sports Services' facilities, fields and courts for the winter and summer seasons. Sports Services also manage the sport facilities of 134 schools for use in the evenings and outside school hours.

Saunas are available for booking on islands, within Helsinki and in outdoor recreation areas. Bookable and public sauna hours are available on many breathtakingly beautiful islands, such as Kaunissaari in Sipoo, and Uunisaari and Pihlajasaari in Helsinki. Saunas are also available on the mainland, in unique locations and along excellent public transport connections. In the summer, saunas are also available at the Rastila Camping site in the Helsinki district of Vuosaari and at hiking lodges in Paloheinä (Tuomarinkylä district) and Maunula (Oulunkylä district). The size of the saunas varies: the smallest saunas can fit a maximum of four bathers at any one time, while the largest ones can fit up to 50 people.

Lounges with a fireplace and other separate facilities are available for booking in places such as the Luukki and Pirttimäki recreation areas in Espoo, and the Salmi recreation area in Vihti.

Cottages are also available for booking on Kaunissaari island, Elisaari island in Ingå, and the Rastila Camping site. You can book a cottage for up to a week at a time.

Almost every location of the Helsinki City Library has spaces that are available for booking for a variety of purposes. You can make use of the spaces either alone or in a group. The meeting rooms are particularly intended for hosting meetings and gatherings. Multi-purpose facilities and team work spaces are suitable for team work, meetings, gatherings, and other such purposes. Additionally, a wide range of spaces are available for gaming and making music.

The cultural centres located around Helsinki offer spaces for many purposes. The available spaces include performance halls, auditoriums, meeting rooms and recreational facilities, as well as galleries and lobby spaces suitable for exhibitions. The City of Helsinki rents out studios and living spaces for artists at the Artists’ House, the main building on Harakka island. Find more information on the Harakka island website(Link leads to external service).

The Helsinki City Museum’s meeting and banquet facilities are available at the City Museum in the Helsinki district of Kruununhaka (street address Aleksanterinkatu 16) and at Villa Hakasalmi in the Helsinki district of Etu-Töölö (street address Mannerheimintie 13b). These spaces are available for booking to youth groups, organisations, associations and other operators for their own use. For example, the spaces are available for group and camping activities. During the spring application period for seasonal reservations, you can apply for a seasonal reservation for activities lasting up to three months. You must book spaces at camping sites and course centres during the previous autumn for activities that will take place the following year. Youth Services have several locations that provide different kinds of equipment for borrowing. For example, you can borrow camping equipment from Wempaimisto(Link leads to external service) and light and sound equipment from  the AV Lending Centre(Link leads to external service). Furthermore, you can use Youth Services’  Copying Centre  to make prints such as posters and flyers (pages in Finnish).
