The City of Helsinki has nine snow dump areas to which plot owners, properties and maintenance companies can bring snow.

Information about snow dumping

Only registered users of the City of Helsinki’s snow dump areas may dump snow in the snow dumping areas.
Dumping snow in a dump area is subject to a charge (EUR 20/load + 24% VAT).
All dumped snow must be clean and free of waste.
Snow dump areas are opened when the need for snow transportation from street areas starts in the winter.
Some snow dump areas may have to be closed temporarily due to maintenance. Maintenance work, which usually lasts for 30 to 120 minutes, includes clearing the dump area roadway and making room for new loads.
Dumping snow in other areas owned by the City of Helsinki besides the official dump areas is prohibited.

Location: Southern tip of Hernesaari

Herttoniemi
Location: South side of the road leading to Fastholma, access via Majavatie

Kivikko
Location: Kivikonlaita street (roughly across the street from the property at Kivikonlaita 11, at the junction of Kivikonlaita and Kivikonkuja)

Kyläsaari
Location: Kyläsaarenkatu 8

Malmi
Location: Access via the Malmi Airport intersection on Tattariharjuntie. 

Maununneva
Location: Access via Kaarelanvierto 

Oulunkylä (Patola)
Location: Access via Risupadontie

Viikki
Location: Viikintie 33

Vuosaari
Location: Access via Satamakaari

Restrictions to the use of Hernesaari snow dump area

The snow dump area in Hernesaari can only be used between 1 November and 30 April.
Snow may be transported to the area from a maximum distance of approximately 5 km. Areas from which snow may be brought to Hernesaari include but are not limited to the areas south of Meilahti, Alppiharju and Sörnäinen, as well as Lauttasaari.
During periods of exceptionally heavy snowfall, when precipitation exceeds 10 cm per day, snow may also be taken to the dump area at night between 22:00 and 7:00 for a maximum of three nights. The opening of the snow dump area for night-time use will be announced on this website.
The use of the Hernesaari snow dump area is restricted by the provisions of an environmental permit issued by the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland.
