Elections and voting

The municipal elections will be held in spring 2025. Election day was on Sunday 13 April 2025.

Preliminary information on the candidates who have been elected to the Helsinki City Council can be found on the Ministry of Justice's Information and Result Service(Link leads to external service) . The official election result will be published on Thursday, after Helsinki Municipal Central Election Committee confirmation. 

Residents of Helsinki voted only in the municipal elections.

Next Mayor of Helsinki appointed on 2 June

The newly elected Helsinki City Council will make its final decision on the distribution of key positions at its first meeting on 2 June. The first meeting of the council will also involve appointing a chair and two deputy chairs for the City Council, members for the City Board and its subcommittees, and members for other Division committees and their subcommittees.

New 2025–2029 City Council term of office

The Helsinki City Council is Helsinki’s highest decision-making body. It is responsible for the city’s operations and finances. In the municipal elections, decision-makers, councillors, and their deputies are elected to serve on the council for a four-year term.
