The Education Division requires a permit for all research projects, theses and reports that gather or process data regarding the Division's clients, pupils, students or personnel, regardless of the method used to obtain the data.

Research permit application, e-service

An online service for applying for a research permit for a study that involves the Education Sector.

How the process works

1. The application is delivered to the Education Sector.
2. The application is processed, and a decision proposal is written. If the study covers two or more divisions of the Education Sector, the decision maker at each division shall fill in the recommendation. After this, Head of Education will state whether the application should be granted.
3. The decision maker at the Education Sector decides on the granting of the permit.
4. The applicant is notified of the decision through the asiointi.hel.fi service.

Processing time

Processing the permit application may take up to one month. If the application is not adequately filled or some of the necessary attachments are not delivered, the process may take longer.

Validity period

The application is valid until the decision is made.

Subject access requests of personal data

According to EU General Data Protection Regulation a person has the right to know, whether his or her personal data is processed and which data have been saved of them.

A person whose personal data is collected in a city register when he or she uses the services of the city can request access to his/her own data through this service. Request to access personal data can also be made by a guardian, a trustee or an authorised representative.

How the process works

When a subject access request is sent, it will alert the assembler of the chosen division, department or municipally owned company. The assembler of the data requests sends the data to the contact person of the register electronically. No decision is made in the case. The person who makes a request to access personal data may be asked to supplement the request. The person who makes a request receives a response by secure e-mail or by post.

Processing time

The data is delivered within one month of the data request.
